Pinnacles National Monument Offers Summer Fun for Everyone
Special to Out & About
The Pinnacles National Monument is actively used by hikers, rock climbers, bird watchers, photographers, painters and more. Overnight camping with hot showers and a swimming pool has made this park a local favorite. Coming soon is the 10th Annual Butterfly Weekend on June 6 and 7. Meet at the Bear Gulch Nature Center by 11am for a Ranger led walk in the Park. The evening program, Butterfly Dreams will be held in the campground amphitheater.
Night Programs are offered periodically on Fridays or Saturdays in spring, summer and fall. The programs include full moon and dark sky hikes, bat viewings and astronomy. Reservations are required for many of our night hikes and space is limited. Full moon hikes are currently scheduled for July 11 and August 8. To sign up, please call (831) 389-4486 ext. 243.
In addition, Park Rangers often present slide shows in the amphitheater at approximately 8:30pm (need sunset prior to beginning). The educational programs, Condors and Creatures of the Night are a couple of the features you will see. For the west entrance to the Park–mark your calendar–on July 24 the Park Rangers are presenting the Westside Astronomy Program. Meet by 8pm in the Chaparral Parking area.
Please be sure to visit www.nps.gov/pinn for more information on these programs and much more. For general information, contact the Visitor Center at (831) 389-4485. |
