Morgan Hill Skate Park
Grand Opening

The long awaited and highly anticipated Morgan Hill Skate Park is at last a reality.  The Skate Park will officially open on June 27, 2009 with a Grand Opening Celebration in conjunction with the Annual YAC “Roofless” teen band concert. The celebration, which begins at 3pm, is a must attend event for all skaters and community members, young and old.  Highlights of the grand opening celebration include an opportunity to meet Steve Caballero, pro skateboarder, an appearance by the FOX BMX team, a live performance by Black Tide on a small detour from the ’09 WARP tour, skate demos, and of course the opportunity to skate the park for the first time! There will be food, fun, music and skating for all!

The new Morgan Hill Skate Park is located at 171 W. Edmundson, adjacent to the Centennial Recreation Center and Community Park.  The park is a 15,000 square foot facility with street style elements, a bowl, “flowcourse,” and was designed for both beginner and advanced skaters.  The park will primarily be used by skaters, but may also include scheduled times for bikes to use the facility.  Safety equipment is required which includes a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads.  Skaters can enjoy the park daily from 8am – Sunset.  The park will be managed by the City’s Recreation and Community Services Department.

The need for a skate park was originally identified in the City’s Parks, Facilities and Recreation Programming Master Plan.  The Morgan Hill Youth Advisory Committee (now Youth Action Council) led a community oriented design process to ensure that the facility met the needs and wants of the participants.  The park was designed by Site Group Design and built by Robert A. Bothman, Inc. The park funded through a combination of the City of Morgan Hill Redevelopment Agency, a grant from the State Department of Recreation and private funds through donations.

The new Skate Park is a fabulous addition to the already tremendous recreation facilities (Aquatics Center, Community and Cultural Center, Centennial Recreation Center and Outdoor Sports Center) the City of Morgan Hill has to offer to both the Morgan Hill community and visitors as well.  For more information about the new Morgan Hill Skate Park and the Grand Opening Celebration contact the Centennial Recreation Center at 408 782-2128 or visit www.mhrecreation.com.
