Spotlight on South Valley Symphony
and Gavilan's Music Department

They’re back, folks! That’s right. Gilroy’s own South Valley Symphony will have not one, but two performances this month in the theater at Gavilan College. Come see Gavilan’s Music Department present their annual “Bach to Blues” Saturday, March 6 at 7:30pm. Local singers and musicians, professionals and students, will take you on a journey through a variety of genres including jazz, flamenco, blues, swing, and of course, classical music. This concert packs the house every year, so don’t miss it! Students and seniors get in for only $10! It is recommended that you get your tickets in advance. If you can’t make it to the first show, be sure you get a seat at South Valley Symphony ‘s program “Music For the Young at Heart” Saturday, March 13 at 4:00pm. With appearance by the winners of the second Al Navaroli Young Musicians Competition, come listen to pieces such as Mendelssohn’s “Concerto for Violins and Orchestra,” Kling’s “The Elephant and the Fly,” Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” Bizet’s “L’ Arlesienne Suite,” as well as riveting spirituals. Admission is free at this performance for children accompanied by a paid adult as well as for students with valid ID, made possible by a grant from the Gilroy Rotary Club.
