Shopping, Dining and More!

March has arrived and we start thinking about warmer, dry weather. With warmer weather on people’s minds it’s also a great time to start thinking about shopping! You might start out by shopping at one of the many boutiques in downtown to see what is new in spring fashion. Savory Seconds, Unique and Tryst can all help you find great ladies fashions and for men there is always Royal Clothiers. Cap off the day with a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants in the downtown. Several of the downtown restaurants have great lunch and dinner specials so you can’t go wrong spending some time and money in downtown.

A new restaurant in downtown is Sangria’s, a fine Mexican restaurant where Chef Alberto and his wife Angelica have hit a home run. Excellent food and service are met with a truly authentic Mexican feel. The restaurant is located at the corner of Monterey Rd. and W. Second St. You will find Sangria’s on the second floor.

Third Street Promenade

Great news! The Third Street Promenade is now completed and open to traffic. Over the past half-year plus we’ve seen the old street reborn. As the connector between the Cal Train station and Monterey Road, the Third Street Promenade is the destination that the City envisions as the place that will become home to many of the events that take place downtown. The street is wider, featuring pavers and flush sidewalks that are separated from the street by benches, custom lighted bollards and landscaping. There is parallel parking on the street and also a small park setting in the middle of the street. Along the wide sidewalk on the south side of the street you will find a large mural that shares the past, present and future of the city. It’s been challenging for all that frequent downtown to deal with lane and temporary street closures, but now that it is all done it was worth the wait. There are plans currently in the works for a “Celebrate Third Street” event to be held on April 17th so check here next month for more information on that.

Entertainment

There is always more happening in downtown than most people think. The Downtown Comedy Night continues on the last Thursday of the month at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse. With great comedians performing to sold-out crowds, you’ll want to be sure to buy your tickets now at BookSmart or Rosy’s at the Beach. To find out about all the other events and happenings, check out the Event Calendar at www.morganhilldowntown.org.

Downtown continues to be a great place to visit with music in the air every day, great boutiques to shop at and excellent food at more than twenty places. No matter what you decide for this spring, make it a Great Day in Downtown!
